Homemade Wine
As some of you know, over the last couple of months I have attempted to make my own wine by using the blackberries I picked. Well, today I have decided to test a bottle. At first glance it looks like a rosê wine, but the bouquet is alarmingly strong.
To be fair, it’s not the best wine I have ever tasted, not enough fruit in it for me, plus the alcohol content makes the taste a bit too strong for my liking, almost like a fortified wine. Although not a disaster, I’ll still drink it, I now know to add more fruit and less sugar into the mixture next time. The best way I can describe the flavour is to urge you to try an Oasis Summer Fruits with some vodka in it, well, quite a lot of vodka… lol
Was it worth the time and effort to make a few bottles of ‘free’ wine? I probably don’t think so, but it was a lot of fun, so I will continue to make more. I quite fancy making nettle wine next year, plus I quite fancy making a banana wine. I’m also looking to make a small amount of rough cider, so I’ll have to invest in a few more demijohns if I’m going to have enough booze for Christmas.
All this self-sufficiency is growing on me, I might even start growing some fruit and veg next year :)
