Another Year

Yet another birthday has arrived, another year older, yet I’m positive that my last one can’t have been less than a few months ago, or so it seems.

I’m sure that most of you feel the same. When I was a kid, the school Summer holidays seemed to last forever, six weeks of sunshine and playing in the woods. Today, six weeks fly by in a blink of an eye. I suppose that is a symptom of the digital age, we live our lives too quickly and forget to take time to enjoy what we can.

So now I’m on the downward slide towards 40, I know I’m only 36, a number which I had to work out as I don’t pay much attention to my own age, maybe it’s time to start acting my age, less partying with the youngsters and more pipe and slippers. I should also make a resolution to get fit, the spare tire is starting to look like a tyre from a tractor rather than a mini, although I’m far too lazy to go out running, besides, my dodgy leg wont let me.

So, plans for the day, treating myself to a lovely roast dinner at home, then I’ll watch a film or two, then maybe I’ll pop down to the local to partake of a couple of pints whilst participating in the pub quiz, followed by a Chinese take away. That will use up all my birthday money and I’ll be a happy bunny.

The one thing I didn’t really expect was the sheer amount of people wishing me a happy birthday on Facebook. Honestly, it’s overwhelming! Especially more so as my phone kept going off all night with alerts and emails. Sure I could have put it on silent, but I like to keep it on for emergencies. I forget sometimes how many friends I have made around the world and all of the different time-zones they live in lol
