All About Percentages

A couple of days ago I Tweeted this.

Oh, that’s a shame, if you earn over £42,500 a year you have to pay 40% tax, terrible that, I have no idea how you will cope…

It was highlighting the fact that our illustrious government is making high earners pay more income tax once they reach a certain point. A point I may add that the vast majority of this population will never be able to reach.

Obviously there was one high earning right-wing idiot ready to have a pop. Saying that £800 a week is a hardship for people who live in London and that this taxation was unfair. Obviously me being Welsh also compounded the problem because Londoners subsidise the Welsh economy with their taxes, that’s why Wales has free prescriptions, nothing to do with Wales being a more caring nation who would rather see its people looked after than consigned into hardship. I’d possibly make an issue of the fact that I haven’t lived in Wales for over a decade, so none of this actually applies.

I retorted with the fact that most people don’t live in London and will never earn anywhere close to £42k, but obviously this makes no difference as London’s population is larger than the population of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland combined he opined. I have no idea what this represents, three nations mean very little to this oik, only London matters. I suppose there is no world outside of the M25.

Well Mr Oik, let me point out that ‘outside’ of London, most of us are lucky to earn between £16-25k, you don’t hear us complaining, we just live within our means. Many more earn much less, you never hear them complaining either, you know why? It’s because they would be too ashamed to. The poorer you are the more dignity you have.

Let’s see, a monthly wage for this tax break would be over £3000. That’s three grand a month! So what if you have to pay £1200 of that in tax, you still have £1800 a month to spend, plus your expenses account and several other tax dodges. For the last two years I have managed to scrape by on £160 a month, see the slight difference there?

To have the gall to complain when you have so much money in your pocket is astounding, especially more so when you see our brave men and women fighting in distant lands, putting their lives at risk for a fraction of that amount, just so you rich bastards can whinge about paying a little bit more than you used to.

Well suck it up, there’s jack shit you can do about it! And the good thing is, we, the unwanted from outside of London, are saving up the extra tax you are paying to build a massive watertight wall around the M25 into which we will all take turns spitting into. Hopefully you and the bankers who slither inside will eventually drown.
