Q&A
I saw this on @BumbleBecki’s blog and thought it would be fun to have a go.
Which living person do you most admire and why?
I admire many people for different reasons. I think Einstein was a pretty awesome guy as his theories are still working perfectly, a man who understood the universe as it is. I also admire many artists, authors, directors for the work they do, I also admire people who give their time to help others, something I do not spend time doing so myself.
When were you happiest?
Strange question this, I’ve had many happy moments but those periods were also tainted with unhappy memories. For instance I look back at running The Cross Inn with fondness but the work was neverending, the boozing too much, the fighting too violent. I think we look back and see what we want to see, like seeing that ex-girlfriend as perfect even though she was in reality a bitch.
What was your most embarrassing moment?
I don’t embarrass easily. I’m well known for stripping off in front of a crowd (something I haven’t done in a while). I don’t mind speaking publicly, although I’d rather not, but I must admit my prat-fall in Venice was quite spectacular. It was raining, we were late to catch a ferry to catch our train, the cobbles we were running on were slippery, I was running as quickly as Usain Bolt, I slipped, landed on my front and proceeded to slide for about 10 meters with a gush of water flowing over my shoulders, looking very much like a F1 car in the wet. Obviously there was a bunch of lovely women sitting nearby laughing their heads off and I managed to rip my new welsh rugby top into shreds on the cobbles.
Aside from property what was the most expensive thing you’ve bought?
Cars mainly, although I have never spent more than £1500 on one. Next would be Apple products, I’m a true Mac Fanboy.
What is your most treasured possession?
Possessions, I have a few. I am really in love with my Apple products but my most prized posession would have to be my Death on Binky figurine made by Clarecraft.
Where would you like to live?
I think I’d like to live in Canada, I’ve never been but the landscape looks spectacular and I’ve been assured the people are lovely. They also have a good quality of life over there and let’s face it, living in the UK is rather shit.
What is your favourite smell?
Bacon cooking, freshly cut grass or this perfume that a girl called Sian who sat next to me in Welsh lessons used to wear, I have no idea what it was but it made me randy as hell, not that I needed an excuse back then.
Who would play you in the film of your life?
I’d like to think it would be Harrison Ford, but lets face it, it will probably be Johnny Vagas
What is your favourite book?
Hmm, hard one to answer, I love The Stand by Stephen King, I also love many Pratchett books, especially Thief of Time and Nightwatch. Clive Barker has me with The Great and Secret Show but if you had to pin me down with an all time stupendous book that I couldn’t live without, it would have to be Dune by Frank Herbert. A truly epic piece of Sci-fi.
What is your most unappealing habit?
I think it’s my laziness or my apathy.
What would be your fancy dress costume of choice?
I change it every year. I’d rather like to turn up as a fully dressed knight in armour one time, or a full on Robocop/Ironman type thing.
What is your earliest memory?
At our first house I remember sleeping in the attic with my sisters and I could see the skylight and for the life of me I know I saw a headless mannequin staring back at me.
What is your guiltiest pleasure?
I strongly believe in allowing yourself any pleasure you wish and not feel guilty about it. But saying that, I’d rather not like to admit to really enjoying Strictly Come Dancing and showing anyone my collection of dancing films like Saturday Night Fever and Footloose etc…
What do you owe your parents?
Lots!
To whom would you most like to say sorry and why?
The only girl I really loved, I got depressed at not being able to find work and I closed down and shut her out.
Who or what is the greatest love of your life?
At the moment I don’t have one, unless you count red wine.
What does love feel like?
There are many kinds of love, I’d say the commonest kind is for your family, it’s comforting and gives you a sense of being. True love, the kind where you have met your soulmate is all encompassing, you cannot breathe without her being there. You love her so much you would do anything for her.
What was the best kiss of your life?
I don’t know, kissing Melissa at the sixth form Christmas party was pretty memorable, mainly because she was waaaay out of my league.
Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
I used to say ‘is it’ a lot, tried to stop that. I also went through a phase of saying ‘okidoki’ too, rarely say them now. I must say something nowadays but I don’t hear it myself. I think the word I use most is ‘fuck’, much to my disappointment.
What is the worst job you’ve done?
OH GOD! I’ve had some corkers in my time, but the most miserable job I ever undertook had to be the Cherry Pies. I was told I was going to be working in a cold room so I had to wrap up warmly. I ended up in front of an industrial conveyor belt oven taking out cherry pies and putting them onto cooling racks ready for packing. Once in the production line I couldn’t stop until the break time and even then I couldn’t take off any clothing due to the sterile conditions and the silly paper suits we had to wear. I will never ever work in a factory ever again!!
If you could edit your past, what would you change?
I would not have taken a certain girl for granted.
What is the closest you’ve come to death?
Quite a few times, the best was a 60mph blow out in a Mini, totalled the car and I managed to escape without a scratch, fuck knows how, I’ve seen less damage on a car and known that people had died.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I don’t know, I don’t think I have one.
When did you last cry, and why?
I’m a sucker for weepy films. Put me in front of Awakenings with Robert De Nero and Robin Williams and I’m flowing like a river. That Robin Williams has a lot to answer for!
How do you relax?
I like to sit down with a glass of wine and a good film.
What single thing would improve the quality of your life?
If someone would pay off my debts and let me live in a house for free for the rest of my life. I’m hopeless at managing my own money. On the other hand, I’m brilliant with other peoples money, figure that one out!
What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
Never count your chickens, you never know what’s around the corner so never judge people and treat everyone as equals.
